Trot \Trot\, v. i. [imp. & p. p. {Trotted}; p. pr. & vb. n.
   {Trotting}.] [OE. trotten, OF. troter, F. trotter; probably
   of Teutonic origin, and akin to E. tread; cf. OHG. trott?n to
   tread. See {Tread}.]
   1. To proceed by a certain gait peculiar to quadrupeds; to
      ride or drive at a trot. See {Trot}, n.

   2. Fig.: To run; to jog; to hurry.

            He that rises late must trot all day, and will
            scarcely overtake his business at night. --Franklin.
