Shallot \Shal*lot"\, n. [OF. eschalote (for escalone), F.
   ['e]chalote. See {Scallion}, and cf. {Eschalot}.] (Bot.)
   A small kind of onion ({Allium Ascalonicum}) growing in
   clusters, and ready for gathering in spring; a scallion, or
   eschalot.
