Saprophyte \Sap"ro*phyte\, n. [Gr. sapro`s rotten + fyto`n a
   plant.] (Bot.)
   Any plant growing on decayed animal or vegetable matter, as
   most fungi and some flowering plants with no green color, as
   the Indian pipe.
