Petrify \Pet"ri*fy\, v. i.
   1. To become stone, or of a stony hardness, as organic matter
      by calcareous deposits.

   2. Fig.: To become stony, callous, or obdurate.

            Like Niobe we marble grow, And petrify with grief.
