Permanent \Per"ma*nent\, a. [L. permanens, -entis, p. pr. of
permanere to stay or remain to the end, to last; per + manere

destroys form or character; remaining unaltered or unremoved;
abiding; durable; fixed; stable; lasting; as, a permanent
