   A heavy wooden hammer or beetle. [Written also {mall}.]

Maul \Maul\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. {Mauled}; p. pr. & vb. n.
   {Mauling}.]
   1. To beat and bruise with a heavy stick or cudgel; to wound
      in a coarse manner.
