Impede \Im*pede"\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. {Impeded}; p. pr. & vb.
   n. {Impeding}.] [L. impedire, lit., to entangle the feet;
   pref. im- in + pes, pedis, foot. See {Foot}, and cf.

   To hinder; to stop in progress; to obstruct; as, to impede
