Gaudy \Gaud"y\, a. [Compar. {Gaudier}; superl. {Gauidiest}.]
   1. Ostentatiously fine; showy; gay, but tawdry or
      meretricious.

            Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy, But not
            expressed in fancy; rich, not gaudy.  --Shak.

   2. Gay; merry; festal. --Tennyson.
