      (a) Any winged insect; esp., one with transparent wings;
          as, the Spanish fly; firefly; gall fly; dragon fly.
      (b) Any dipterous insect; as, the house fly; flesh fly;

   2. A hook dressed in imitation of a fly, -- used for fishing.
