   Oppressive or unreasonably severe in making demands or
   requiring the exact fulfillment of obligations; harsh;
   severe. ``A temper so exacting.'' --T. Arnold --

   subjected to exaction; as, to exact tribute, fees, obedience,
   etc., from or of some one.
