   n. {Detesting}.] [L. detestare, detestatum, and detestari, to
   curse while calling a deity to witness, to execrate, detest;
   de + testari to be a witness, testify, testis a witness: cf.

   1. To witness against; to denounce; to condemn. [Obs.]
