Demit \De*mit"\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. {Demitted}; p. pr. & vb. n.
   {Demitting}.] [L. demittere to send or bring down, to lower;
   de- + mittere to send. Cf. {Demise}.]
   1. To let fall; to depress. [R.]
