   cravant? struck down, p. p. of cravanter, crevanter, to
   break, crush, strike down, fr. an assumed LL. crepantare, fr.
   L. crepans, p. pr. of crepare to break, crack, rattle. Cf.
   {Crevice}, {Crepitate}.]
   Cowardly; fainthearted; spiritless. ``His craven heart.''
