Windward \Wind"ward\, n.
   The point or side from which the wind blows; as, to ply to
   the windward; -- opposed to {leeward}.

   {To lay an anchor to the windward}, a figurative expression,
      signifying to adopt precautionary or anticipatory measures
      for success or security.
