Papal \Pa"pal\, a. [F., fr. L. papa bishop. See {Papacy}.]
   1. Of or pertaining to the pope of Rome; proceeding from the
      pope; ordered or pronounced by the pope; as, papal
      jurisdiction; a papal edict; the papal benediction.
