Braise \Braise\, Braize \Braize\, n. [So called from its
   iridescent colors.] (Zo["o]l.)
   A European marine fish ({Pagrus vulgaris}) allied to the
   American scup; the becker. The name is sometimes applied to
   the related species. [Also written {brazier}.]
