Gymnogen \Gym"no*gen\, n. [Gr. gymno`s naked + -gen.] (Bot.)
   One of a class of plants, so called by Lindley, because the
   ovules are fertilized by direct contact of the pollen. Same
   as {Gymnosperm}.
